In the end, it all comes down to “Beat It” versus “Eat It.” The former appears on lounge chameleon Richard Cheese’s third album, I’d Like a Virgin; the latter on polka parodist “Weird Al” Yankovic’s second, In 3-D. Cheese sees the Michael Jackson double-Grammy-winner as a meditative piano ballad bolstered by a children’s choir. Yankovic, meanwhile, reimagines it as a parental harangue concerning chicken, pie, yogurt and Spam. But in this funky, strong fight, it doesn’t matter who’s wrong or right. As long as no laser-shootin’ statues are involved, we’ll wholeheartedly endorse both. –Julie Seabaugh
