We won’t get to see the Kanye West/Lady Gaga traveling road show at Mandalay Bay Events Center on Nov. 13 after all. The co-headlining Fame Kills Tour, featuring two of the more conversation-provoking stars in contemporary music over the past several weeks, was abruptly canceled this afternoon. An MGM Mirage spokesman and a news release issued by Live Nation confirmed that the 34-city tour was scuttled today, but gave no reason why.
Those holding tickets for the show are being instructed to contact their original point of purchase (the Mandalay Bay Events Center or Ticketmaster) for refunds.
West created a dust-up Sept. 13 at the MTV Video Music Awards when he interrupted Best Female Video winner Taylor Swift with an ill-placed (though energetic) announcement of support for losing nominee Beyonce (who’d later in the show win Video of the Year). He later apologized on national TV during interviews with Jay Leno and Larry King, as well as directly to Swift.
Also during the VMA telecast, Lady Gaga performed while drenched in fake blood. Fittingly, the show at Mandalay Bay was to take place on Friday the 13th.
