On TV, MythBusters Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage are known for their witty commentary, ample explosions and crucial scientific research, like testing which falls faster, light beer or regular beer. Onstage, the guys’ live show, Behind the Myths, is like attending the coolest lecture ever, an entertainment experience that’s almost subversively educational. From weight distribution (on a bed of nails, natch) to the power of friction (would you trust your life to a phone book?), special effects experts Hyneman and Savage demonstrate scientific principles using themselves and brave audience volunteers, breaking up the experiments with question-and-answer sessions and stories from more than a decade of myth busting for the Discovery Channel. (Ask about the cannibalistic lab mouse.) It’s a family-friendly night out that demolishes one myth more than any other: Science isn’t fun.
MythBusters: Behind the Myths June 21, 7 p.m., $40-$125. Orleans Arena, 702-284-7777.
